I have finished the eighteenth year with Spartans FC and the 2031/2032 season was very successful. We have won four competitions – all three domestic competitions and Europa League. We wanted to have a successful Champions League campaign but we were unable to reach knock-out stage.
As I wrote in the last part of this save, my Spartans FC team needed some new faces and some refreshment. We signed eight new players including two big transfers of midfielder Juan Fernando Diosa and defender Gary Dingwall.
We also signed talented defenders Bob Moore, Jake Brown, Matthieu Delvaux and Manuel Holzinger because we released some defenders who were not good enough. We bought central midfielder Martin McKenzie from Motherwell as well and talented winger or forward Zulu from Santos for only 550K £.
We had to sell someone so Josh Dobbie went to Brighton, Ian Lindsay to West Ham, Blas Ibánez to Norwich and Sean McLaughlin to Watford. Many players wen on loan to lower leagues. Total income was 30M£ and we spend 23,7M£.
Left defender Alisdair Sutherland left the club after 14 seasons with us. He played 418 matches, scored 37 goals and made 61 assists. He was named 20x Man of the Match and had average rating about 7,11. He was one of the most influental player during this save.
Scottish League Cup
It was an easy way for another trophy. We beat Forfar 4-1, Kilmarnock 2-1 and Celtic 1-0 thanks to a goal by legendary midfielder Toby Macneil who were not played too much in this season due to frequent injuries.
We met Dundee United in the Final and we beat them 2-0 thanks to goals by defender Jake Brown and forward Armando Gagliardi. It was our sixth win in a row in this competition.
Scottish FA Cup
Similar story as in the League Cup. We won against Partick Thistle 1-0, against St. Mirren 3-0, against Kilmarnock and Ross County 3-1. We played against Aberdeen in the Final and it was unnecessarily dramatic match. We had more than 50 shots in this match but we scored only two goals.
It looked like typical FM match, I was expecting when we get a goal and we lost 0-1 from one opponent’s shot. But it did not happen. Joseba Arregi scored from penalty and Darko Popovic scored in the stoppage time our second goal. We won FA Cup for the ninth time in a row.
Scottish Premier League
Another season without loss. We have won 29 matches from 38, scored 93 goals and conceded 24. We gained 94 points and finished season 10 points ahead of Celtic and 35 points ahed of Ross County. Falkirk and Hearts were relegated.
We are now 259 matches without losing in the Scottish Premier League. That’s really incredible.
Disappointment. We had Atlético Madrid, Schalke 04 and Brighton in the Group Stage. We lost both matches with Atlético and in the Brighton as well. We beat Brighton at home and Schalke away. Thanks to a draw in the last match with Schalke we finished third in the table and we reach Europa League knockout stage.
When we had a chance to play Europa League I was desperate to win this competition like in 2026 and 2027. We met Olympiakos in the 1st Knockout Round and we were very lucky to progress. We lost 2-3 away but we won 2-1 at home in the second leg so we were through thanks to a away goal rule.
Next round? Away loss against Leverkusen but very convincing victory at home. We met Fenerbahce in the Qtr Final and we were through to the Semi Final thanks to a draw 2-2 at home and 2-1 win in Istanbul.
The Semi Final against Zenit was great. Both matches were entertaining and dramatic. We won 4-2 at home in the first leg. We were 2-0 down in the second leg after 17 minutes but we scored two goals during the first half. Zenit was 3-2 ahead thanks to an own goal by David Calder but we equalized by Valentino Lazaroni. Zenit managed to win 4-3 thanks to Anton Yakimov but we progress to the Final on overall win 7-6.
Athletic Club beat FC Sevilla in the Semi Final and they were favorites in the Final but we played great at De Kuip Stadium. Central Defender scored goal in the 37th minute after exemplary long throw-in by Darko Popovic (VIDEO). Jon Lasarte was sent-off in the 51st minute but we were unable to score another goal. Nevermind. We had 31 shots (7 on target), Athletic Club had 8 shots but 0 on target. We won the Europa League for the third time in the club history.
Stats & others
We finished this season in big financial loss due to an early end in the Champions League. Spartans had a loss of 14,75M£ for the financial year, a worrying 20 percent of their turnover. It was due to a stadium expansion as well. There will be big transfers during next summer and there will be another stadium expansion for a fee around 10M£.
We had new average attendance record this season of 29 527. Graham Paterson has been voted Spartan’s Player of the season – he played 47 matches, scored 6 goals and made 16 assists. We will play Chelsea in the European Super Cup in August this year. It will be fun…
