FM16: “The Academics” – part VI – How we have earned some money (?!)

-£1,054,193. That was our Overall Balance after the first season with AB Copenhagen. And season’s loss was -£481,316. We had to do something with this and the best way how to earn some money and help to the club was through friendlies during pre-season.

Main goals of pre-season:

  • Earn some money.
  • Earn some money.
  • Results not important, just fitness.
  • Earn some money…

The first important thing is – you have to arrange friendlies by yourself. If you let it to your assistant, it will probably not be such effective.

The second important thing is – you should arrange friendlies/leagues/cups as soon as possible and you should not wait when your players will be back from holiday or pre-season starts.

Why? It’s simple.

When you will wait till the last moment, the most reputable clubs will have their friendlies already arranged. And it would be a shame for you.

So I opened our schedule and calendar just before our last league match because the last round of the third Danish league was played already in June. I wanted to arrange a minimum of two friendly cups and two friendly leagues. Unfortunately one of the arranged league was cancelled due to a Champions League qualification match of one of our opponent.

For the first cup we invited FC Copenhagen, Brondby IF and SonderjyskE. There was more than 15 thousands fans of both semi finals combined and 13800 people for the final match between FC Copenhagen and Brondby. All four matches were televised as well.

For the second cup we invited Fulham FC, QPR and FC Metz. The attendance was more less than for the previous cup but that nevermind. We have also one friendly league with Hull City, Fortuna Düsseldorf and AFC Bournemouth. We have lost all three matches but that is not too much important. Same as in the two cups the league matches were televised.

We played also another four friendlies with AC Horsens, Club Brugge, FC Nordsjaelland and FC Helsingor. We were able to beat Horsens and Helsingor.

We played 11 friendly matches and we earn £507,807 thanks to a gate receipts and £278K thanks to a TV revenue.

What is the result of this? We started pre-season with -£1,054,193 overall balance and we have -£265,803 after the last friendly match. Big improvement.

Finances_ Finances Summary-2

So, this process I will repeat during winter pre-season but it would be probably on a smaller scale because we are still semi-professional club and players will have nearly three months holiday and pre-season will be shorter.

Thanks for reading. @KeysiRensie
