FM16: “The Academics” – part XIX – 5th League title

Domestic league title is must. Same as the domestic cup – DBU Pokalen. The Champions League success is welcome bonus. That’s how we live in Copenhagen after more than ten years in charge of Akademisk Boldklub. The season 2026/2027 is over and we can say that we met all the expectations.

Transfers 2026/2027

We were active during both transfer windows and we brought 11 new players to the club during summer 2026 and winter 2027. The same amount of players left the club this season. We bought young talented players like Tobias Lutz from Sparta Prague (central defender who plays for Germany Under-21) or two players from Nordsjaelland – midfielder Flemming Skovby and defender Jesper Curth.

We also bought defender who can play at every position – Dylan Lefevre from SC Bastia or young strikers Anders Toxvaerd from AC Horsens and Carsten Mouritsen from FC Kobenhavn.

We spent almost 10M and we earned 10.95M. We had to sell players like Florian Tissot to Manchester United for 6.5M or Sten Kristensen to Fenerbahce and Jan Rasmussen to Reading. Tissot, young right defender, came to our club a year ago for 400K and we can make profit for his another transfer as well.

We also sell striker Kenni Aakjaer who struggled last year and he was wanted around Europe. I tried to earn as much as it was possible and he moved to Lille for 2.5M and we signed Killian Lagache as a part exchange.

Competitions Summary 2016/2027

We really wanted to go through to the Champions League Group Stage again because we need that prize money from TV revenue, matches and tickets. We won all six matches in qualification with six clean sheets. We beat 4-0 Zalgiris twice, Bate 1-0 twice and APOEL 4-0 and 3-0.

We met Ajax, Sporting and Sevilla in the Group A. We started really good when we beat Ajax, lost to Sporting but we beat Sevilla 1-0 away and drew 1-1 at home. We won in Amsterdam and with Sporting at home so we were first in the table after all matches were played.

But the 1st Knockout Stage was the end for us. We lost 0-1 in Dortmund and despite Henrik Michaelsen hattrick we only drew 3-3 at home.

Domestic cup was easy this year thanks to a Champions League early exit. We beat Naestved, Viborg, Esbjerg, Aalborg and Randers in the Final.

In Superliga we were dominant from the start of the competition. We conceded first goal in seventh match of the season. The best game of the first part of the season was against Silkeborg at home. We won 7-1 thanks to Nichlas Meyer hattrick and we scored seven goals from 11 shots on target.

But yes, there were some poor results like 1-4 loss with Roskilde or 0-2 loss with Sondersjyske. We lost 4 matches during season and managed four draws as well. We finished this season with 88 points from 36 matches. We scored 58 goals and conceded 22. We were 22 points ahead of FC Kobenhavn and 30 points ahead of SonderjyskE.

Viborg FF, Silkeborg IF and Esbjerg fB were relegated to the NordicBet Liga. HB Koge, Vejle BK and AGF Aarhus are promoted to the Superliga.

I was also pleased with development of young players. For example Flemming Skovby, Kim Karlsen, Asle Runar or goalkeeper William Thorhauge.

Akademisk Boldklub Gladsaxe_ Players Players

We continue with facilities improvements and we invested in training and youth facilities this season. Stadium still has 10K capacity. We signed some new coaches during this season and Javi Martinéz was one of them.

This year’s profit is a litle worser than last year because of earlier exit from Champions League where we were in Semi Final in previous season and prize money were bigger. But we have no loans and during next summer transfer window we surely will sell some other players for big money.

Thanks to our good results in Champions League Denmark have moved to 7th position in the European nation coefficients table so from 2028/2029 season there will be 1 team in UCL Group Stage and 1 team in Best Placed Third Qualifying Phase. There will also be 1 team in Europa League Group Stage, 2 teams in Third Qualifying Round and 1 in Second Qualifying Round.

  1. Quality update as usual. Grats on winning everything domestically. Good to see that your results and achievements in Europe have good effects on the status of Denmark. How other danish teams can cope with the European Cups and how far can they go?

Keep up the good work! ^^

    • FC Kobenhavn finished 2nd in the Europa League Group Stage and they were eliminated in the 2nd Knockout Round by Atlético. And that’s all, no other team was in the Europe last season.

But in the 2027/2028 there will be 2 teams in Europa League Group Stage and my team in UCL. Two teams unfortunately finished straight in the 3rd qualifying round.

Thanks for your feedback as always ;)
