Domestic league domination continue as Akademisk Boldklub won six Superliga title in a row. We also won DBU Pokalen thanks to Final win over rival Lyngby BK and goal by our regen and living legend Nichlas Meyer. Champions League was the same story as last year – end of the campaign in the 1st Knockout Round.
What about transfers this season? You can read about our transfers before this season in the previous part on my blog in which I wrote mainly about the youngsters and some talented players we bought or they are our regens.
You cand find this part where is also a summary of summer transfer window HERE.
Expect these transfers there was some activity also in winter and unfortunately for us we lost another two very good players. Again. Midfielder Flemming Skovby (I wrote about him in the previous post and I really like his style of play) moved to Atlético Madrid for £2M and some additional fees. [he was bought £475K]
Talentent young striker Carsten Mouritsen was bought by Stoke City. He was only one calendar year with us and he scored 3 goals in 18 matches. He was wanted by another clubs from UK. The transfer fee could rise up to £1,7M. [he was bought £525K]
Both wanted to leave which is very traditional way how to lose young players. It’s getting more and more depressing because they are still very young but they don’t want to be in their homeland despite they are in the best Denmark club and they could play Champions League.
Nevermind, it’s history now. We signed 16 year old winger Kent Moller from Midtjylland and I could do my best to develop him into good young Superliga midfielder. He scored his first senior goal in his debut agains Lyngby BK during 2nd half part of the season.
Competitions Summary 2017/2028
Champions League campaign was shorter than two years ago when we were in the Semi Final. It was absolutely the same story as in the previous season. We had very tough group with PSG, Atlético and Celtic.
We beat Celtic in both games and we also earned four points in two games with Atlético so we finished second in the table and reached the 1st Knockout Round. But there we met Real Madrid and lost 0-3 in both matches. All four home matches were sold out.
The Superliga season 2027/2028 was very tough for our team because FC Kobenhavn strengthened their squad and they were much better then in previous seasons. Also Brondby IF nad FC Nordsjaelland were much better and they were in title race longer than previously.
We had very good start and we lost our first match of the season with Aalborg in half of the September during very tight schedule. For the first time after four or five years we were not first in the league table before winter break but jus after loss with Real Madrid we had enough energy and the spring part of the season was very good by us.
We were able to celebrate our sixth league title in a row five matches before the end of the season after win against Brondby.
The last four matches ended identically with 1-1 draw, I gave chance to many youngsters and turned my attention to DBU Pokalen.
Domestic cup was funny competition this year. From third round to Semi Final I played with youngsters and I think that their performances and their developing is the main reason why I still play this save despite continuing players exodus.
We beat AC Horsens 2-0, SonderjyskE 3-0 and Hobro IK after penalties. AC Horsens players probably never practised penalties because they missed four attempts so it did not matter that we also missed two penalties.
In Semi Final we beat AGF Aarhus 2-1 at home and 3-0 away. The Final was great. We played against rival Lyngby and central defender Renato Kubiski was sent off in the 29th minute. He received straight red card after this tackle…
Despite that we took the lead in the 41th minute after goal by Henrik Michaelsen. They equalised just after the half-time thanks to Mikkel Bigler goal after the Near Post Corner Kick Routine.
I did not send another defender instead of dismissed Kubiski and we played the rest of the match in 3-1-4-1 formation.
We had a corner kick 16 minutes before the final whistle, Hansen passed the ball to Michaelsen and Nichlas Meyer was the fastest in the penalty area and smashed the ball to the net! Great moment for this player who is our own regen, he is club legend and he played most matches from all players in club history.
It was our seventh win in the DBU Pokalen in the last eight years.
Stats 2027/2028 and others
We played 36 matches in Superliga with 23 wins, 10 draws and 3 losts. We scored 67 goals and concede only 25. We had 86 yellow cards and 4 red cards, we were the best in these categories. We had 9,824 average attendance this season – 8th highest in the league.
Striker Henrik Michaelsen scored 30 goals in all competitions, he became Superliga top goalscorer with 23 goals. He scored only two goals in Champions League – he scored 14 last season in this competition.
Nichals Meyer had 12 assists, Frederik Kristensen had the highest average rating of 7.98 and Asle Runar had best pass completion with 84%. Dylan Lefevre had 14 yellow cards and Lars Sorensen two red cards.
Very good thing of this season is that we improved our facilities again. We now have “Superb training facilities” and “Great youth facilities” and another work on youth facilities is planned.
During winter break there is always time for some ceremonies. Michaelsen won the best Danish player of the year and our youngsters won the best player of the year award in U17, U19 and U21 category and Thorhauge was voted the best Danish goalkeeper of the year. Five our players was also voted to the Danish Team of the Year.
There were Sorensen, Jensen, Kristensen, Meyer and Michalesen in the starting XI. Peter Thomsen as a sub.
In the summer 2028 there was EURO in Spain and Denmark qualified for the final tournament which means 5 current AB players went to the EURO tournament – Kristensen, Michaelsen, Jensen, Thomsen and Thorhauge who made his senior national team debut when he was 21 year old.
Denmark national team finished the EURO 2028 at last place in the Group Stage. Norway won the EURO after Final win over England.
The youth intake this year was not too good as I wanted but nevermind. We will have to surelly sell some players so we will play with youngsters and we will try to do best and retain title.
Another good news at the end – the board have announced plans to enlarge the stadium by 2,808 seats.
