Off the back of last weeks win, October is now a month of huge significance. We need to pick up at least nine points to guarantee a top four finish.
Momentum can be a powerful weapon if your facing the right direction. Unfortunately for us we are pressed nose down in the dirt and its smashing us from behind.
After 4 defeats in 5, things are getting desperate. We now sit fifth in the league and find ourselves the wrong side of the magical green line.
Alfred Austin, my main man was rushed back against HIK and even though he scored twice the injury flared up and he missed the last game. He would be absent again today as bottom side B93 come to town and given neither of my other two strikers have scored a goal this season we need someone to step up.
Fredensborg 3 – 1 B93
Kevin Schmidt had kept his head down and worked hard since joining in the summer. At 27 he had only made 44 career appearances throughout the Danish leagues, finally he seemed to have found his place. With Austin still struggling we needed a hero and Schmidt was that man scoring a delightful hat-trick.
The win moves us into fourth with two league games left to play. We will probably have to beat fifth placed Holbaek on the final day to make the top four but before that it’s the Danish Cup 3rd Round and Superliga side Viborg FF are in town.
My physio says that Austin could play 45 mins if we need him to but this would put him in jeopardy for the final two games of the season, It’s a big call. It would be our largest crowd of the season so a good performance could help attract a few more through the door for future encounters not to mention the boost it would give the players heading into the final few weeks.
Austin will play!
Fredensborg 2 – 5 Viborg FF
What have I done? Risked the rest of the season for a shot at instant glory and recognition.
45 minutes the Physio said 45 minutes. Austin had started and scored a fantastic goal to put us into the lead. At half time all was well with the world, Then it happened. I got swept up in the moment and in the 65th minute Alfred was carried from the field.
After that the game went crazy and we ended up being comfortably beaten with Viborg scoring four times in the last 17 minutes.
So two games to go, a striker at the hospital and a fan base that includes a fierce looking Alsatian thats less than happy. I find myself googling ‘Witch Doctors in Copenhagen’ and wondering if the faith healer Irene Drury would fancy a trip to Denmark.
Without Alfred Austin the future is far from bright…..
