Fredensborg – Where hope springs eternal.

March 2017

Here we go, 22 games ahead and a huge gap to make up if we are to get anywhere near the promotion spots. They could be 22 meaningless games or we could do something spectacular.

Fredensborg 4-1 Kolding

A fantastic start saw us brush Kolding to one side thanks mainly to a first half hat trick from Alfred Austin. It wasn’t all good though as Emil Thomsen our new signing suffered a horrendous injury that would now keep him out for 8 months. He would have been a first 11 player week in week out so its a huge blow.

v Kolding

Middlefart 0-1 Fredensborg

Without Emil Thomsen we would next face league leaders Middlefart yes thats Middle-Fart on their own patch. We hoped to go there and not stink the place out (sorry).

Looking at how they set up we decided to adopt a wider style of play than usual and it definitely helped nullify there normal game plan. Having only been beaten once it was always going to be a tough game, both sides had few chances and it looked like it would peter out into a 0-0.

We stuck to the game plan and really focussed our attacks on the wings, Niklas Marloth finally broke free down the left and fizzed a ball into the box, Kevin Schmidt was on to it like a flash and drove the ball home to give us a massive 3 points.

We were still playing mid week friendlies to try and creep the match sharpness up on the players who weren’t playing regularly and it seemed to be working, the latest saw Jimmy Mayasi grab a hat trick and gain some much needed confidence.

Fredensborg 1-1 Thisted and Fredensborg 1-1 FC Sydvest

I have grouped both theses games together as they were carbon copies of one another. Both times we could only muster a single goal even though we controlled the match and created buckets of chances.

March games

By the end of April I’m relatively happy with how we have come back after the mid season break. I have a huge sense of regret that because of the league structure promotion is still a long way off. Dropping points in the last two games is a real kick in the teeth given how we controlled each match and created enough chances to comfortably win. It will probably go on to define our season.

march league table

Worryingly a lot of my squad are now drawing attention to themselves and 6 of them are wanted by clubs from higher leagues. Because of our amateur status they can walk away at any time so we are bracing ourselves for an exodus of players.

One other small pointer is that my own star seams to be rising, the newspapers seem to link me with every job thats available but for now I’m more than happy working for free and living above a fishmongers, honest!
