“Part Of The Furniture.” I know I used this as a title of one of my post about AB save during FM16 but It would be really strange if I would not have this badge in the Steam Library within achievements this year once again.

Except for short experiments with new tactics, I always prefer long term saves and almost all the time it’s only one save just from the Beta version of the game.

This year is the same.

My save with Reading is ten years long now as I finished the 2025/2026 season and we could take a look back on what we have achieved.

But firstly, there is a summary of the jubilant tenth season with the club from Berkshire.

Transfers 2025/2026

I decided to buy three youngsters for the future and one player straight to the starting XI. This one is central defender David Christie and we bought him for 5M from Celtic.

Richard  Allen and Aaron Humphrey are also central defenders but they will get some time in domestic cups and they will mainly play for our reserve team. Congolese right/central defender Christ Bidimbou came from “Centr National de Formation de Football” and he spent the whole season in PEC Zwolle on-loan.

I, unfortunately, deleted their screens from the start of the season so there are from the end of this year.

There were also some goodbyes. Except for free transfers and loans, we sold some long-term serving players. Central defender Ashley Wiley left to Brentford for 5.5M, attacking midfielder Dean Castle to Mainz for 6M and one of my favourite players, George Evans, went to Derby County for 6.5M as he wanted a new challenge after 9 years with Reading.

Promising youngsters like Walker, King, Klar or Iribar were on another loan spell due to they don’t have a work permit.

2025/2026 Season Summary

Same as last year I thought this season will not be as successful like the previous one. Some players from the original squad are one year older again and it looked like they performances will be worse and worse but I was wrong…

We started a season with a Community Shield win over Manchester United as we beat them after penalties. And a couple of days later we beat Juventus 3-1 in the European Super Cup.

After some points loss, we were outside of the top six places in the Premier League as we lost to Chelsea or Watford and tied with Tottenham or Cardiff City (very depressive match to watch).

Reading v Swansea_ Overview OverviewBut we turned it off. If we need some team to get back on the track we have Swansea.

We were not good in the first half of this match as we played with some backup players what is normal in domestic cups but we lead 1-0. And striker Paul Rimmer scored three goals also in the second half and we won 4-0. After this win, we beat Arsenal, Rosenborg, Huddersfield and Bournemouth.

It last 11 matches when we lost again and it was in the Premier League against Manchester United.

We have won the Champions League group with 14 points after four wins and two draws. We scored 16 goals and conceded three. Benfica finished second three points behind and the bottom Rosenborg had only one point thanks to a goalless draw with Shakhtar during the matchday three.

After the defeat of Manchester United in the Premier League, we had a fantastic run of great results. We won all matches except two (2-2 with Tottenham and 2-2 with Stoke in EFL Cup) until the 24th February 2026 including FIFA Club World Cup.

And thanks to this perfect form we moved back to the title race. We also won the EFL Cup after a 1-0 win over Manchester United and Danny Loader goal. It was our sixth EFL Cup win in a row.

Reading v Manchester United_ Overview Overview

As the season continued we were still in all competitions and we were able to win all of them once again. Manchester United players and Mourinho as well were not too happy when we beat them also in FA Cup Semi Final.

Arsenal was unable to eliminate us from Champions League Quarter Final and also Barcelona was not better than us as we beat them in the Semi Final thanks to away goal rule. So another Champions League Final.

But just before we secured our third Premier League title in a row after a 2-1 win over Sunderland in the 37th Round.

“The Grand Finale”. We lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup Final as Breel Embolo scored only one goal of the match after 45 seconds.

It looked very similar when we played the Champions League Final a couple of days later. Johannes Eggestein scored the opener after 39 seconds and PSG led 1-0. But just before the half-time Swift and Loader turned it to 2-1 for us and Antony Molloy scored our third in the 53rd minute and we won Champions League for the fourth time in a row.

Premier League 2025/2026

So, the summary of the tenth season is very good – six trophies from seven competitions. You maybe notice in the screen with results there was a Checkatrade Trophy Final against Manchester United U23s team. I don’t count this competition as I think it’s a bug in the game.

My reserve squad played this competition but they had reserve league match in date of the Final so they rearranged it but our first team had to play the Final. Little bit stupid…

Striker Antony Molloy was the best player of this season. Traditional key players Samuel, Kelly and Barret all had troubles with injuries and their performances were not as good as in the previous seasons.

Molloy played scored twenty goals in Premier League and 34 in all competitions. Danny Loader played in more matches than Molloy but he scored “only” 28 goals in all competitions but he made 21 assists. He was great but I decided to vote Molloy as the best player of the season as he was more consistent and he contributed well as a backup player.

10 years with Reading

As I wrote at the start this season was our tenth together. We made an incredible rise and won a lot of trophies so far. If there is something that I appreciate a lot it has to be the strategy to play with players from the original squad. And despite they are older and older we are still very dangerous side for all our opponents.

What are the stats after the end of the tenth season? We played 607 matches – won 407 – drawn 131 – lost 69. We scored 1273 goals and conceded 601 (goal difference 672) and we now have a 67% win percentage.

There will be the third chapter of Bastardo on holiday by FM Grasshopper during April with me and the one and only FM Grasshopper made this for me recently. Thanks for it 💙

If you read about this save you know I still have a lot of players from the original save and I talk about it very often in my posts. To be fair I’m proud of it as I’m a very conservative this year.

I made a screenshot of overall best XI after previous 10 years and you can see on the picture rounded players who are in the club for the whole save.

Dominic Samuel has most appearances from all these players as he played 423 matches so far and scored 239 goals. Danny Loader scored 230 goals in 393 matches and Liam Kelly has 117 goals in 395 matches.

Antony Molloy has also a good record as he scored 128 goals in 234 matches and he is a backup player during his stay with Reading.

There is also left defender Ramarni Medford-Smith who are with us for the whole save but he is not a part of the best XI as he is mainly backup player.

Some of the regen players are also in the club for five and more years but except midfielder Jan Cvancara or central defender Andy McNab, none of them made a huge impact so far.

I also picked the best five players so far including Liam Kelly, Jake Cooper, Danny Loader, Josh Barrett and Dominic Samuel. I can’t pick the best one or the best three because all players from the original squad and Jermaine Anderson are/were great. But let’s take a look at profiles of these five players after the 2025/2026 season.

This is how our Finances look after the 2025/2026 season.
