Fredensborg – Where my flats possibly going up for sale!

FC Kobenhavn, our illustrious neighbours were as usual running away with the Superliga. The Danish giants dominate the league year after year so getting anything from our next game would take a monumental effort.  On top of that my relationship with Kobenhavn manager Stalle Solbakken was less than amicable.

Fredensborg 2-1 FC Kobenhavn

There are actual people in the stands! Over 2000 spectators watched Mads Falck produce a moment of brilliance early in the game to put us 1-0 up then it was a back to walls job. We defended brilliantly and when Anders Nielsen scored a second on the break I couldn’t believe it. Could we hold on?

You bet we could. Even after the referee somehow saw a push in the box to award the visitors a 77th minute penalty we clung on to deny Kobenhavn a late late equaliser and by doing so claimed the greatest result in the clubs history.
Kobenhavn
AGF 1-0 Fredensborg
One week your up in the clouds the next brought back to earth with a bump. We didn’t play too badly but lacked the fire and energy we had shown the previous week.
Holbaek 0-1 Fredensborg (Danish Cup 3rd Round)
Alfred Austin scored the only goal of the game in which we had over 20 shots on target. Progression in the cup is a huge bonus, I want to have a real go at it this season as on our day in the right circumstances we have proven we can match most sides.
Fredensborg 1-1 OB
Another game, another goal down inside 5 minutes. Once again we are playing catch up and even though Thomsen equalises we just can’t get another. This is becoming a real problem for us.
Brondby 2-0 Fredensborg
For one of the first times this season we looked out of our depth. Brondby outfought us and out worked us. We are beginning to look a little jaded and not out of our depth but maybe just struggling to match the other sides quality week in week out.
The league table is so tight and we have dropped into the bottom half.  Only a few points separate us from a fantastic season and one where we battle relegation.

Next up we play host to our hosts as FC Nordsjaelland play us on their own patch. As grateful as we are for them helping us in our hour of need, we want the 3 points to try and kick start our season.
Fredensborg 0-2 FC Nordesjaelland
We need a result and quick, this defeat is now only two wins in ten. Next up is 12th placed Esbjerg and another defeat would leave us perilously close to the drop zone. We are going to make some changes both personnel wise and tactically.
Rasmus Thomsen has finally turned 16 years old. Since I noticed him playing for the under 19s over nine months ago I have wanted to give him his debut and today is that day. Big shoes to fill as Austin drops to the bench but sometimes a leap of faith can bring everyone back together.
Esbjerg 3-1 Fredensborg
And sometimes that leap of faith bites you in the arse. Rasmus did his best but looked smaller than everybody out there and it was his mistake that gifted Esbjerg their opener. To make matters worse the young lad got crunched just after his mistake and was stretchered from the field leaving him no time to atone for his error. Stefan Stojilkovic made his return to the first team squad and scored a late consolation goal, the young striker who scored 13 goals in 16 games last season was raring to go. Maybe I gave the wrong young striker the chance.
Fredensborg 0-1 FC Roskilde
Nine minutes in and as per usual we are 1-0 down. We never fought back, we never looked like scoring. There were a few boo’s at full time, probably from the new supporters we have taken on board but I know the true fans are just delighted to even be playing these fixtures.
FC Midtjylland 1-3 Fredensborg
There were recalls for Lund, Johnson, Thomsen and Austin and more importantly It worked. A brace from Tobias Thomsen and a goal for Ayunga give us a huge 3 points against one of the top teams in the division. What a relief, with only 1 game to go until the winter break three more points would see us safely in mid-table, which would be a fine achievement.
Fredensborg 0-0 Aab
A fairly dull way to see out the last game. Even though we controlled large swaths of the play we didn’t do enough to earn the win.

We would now have a few months off and as the winter sets in it would give me and the players a much needed break. The Superliga was full on and a huge step up. I have to remember that we still have lads turning out for us on Amateur contracts, they are not going to be able to maintain their levels week in week out. This was something we had to look at before the squad regroup.
When the boys return the board have given me permission to take them to Spain on a mid-season training camp. It will hopefully get us back to match sharpness as in previous seasons its taken far too long to hit that level.
That was just about the end of this update when something happened. I have turned down more job opportunities than I’ve had pints of Carlsberg over this past 18 months. The majority of which come from British lower league clubs, I always turn down the chance of an interview. Then one day I get a call asking me if I could find the time to travel to Spain, The Villareal president would like to meet me. It’s the midseason break here so I decide to take the flight, we talk and I head back home thinking if nothing else the experience will hold me in good stead. Then I get this through:
villareal
Im currently earning £500 a week, this deal dwarfs it. This would take me into big time, the only thing that keeps me in Fredensborg is blind loyalty and some strange driven feeling to win something before I move on.
I’ll think about it…..
