FM17 | Reading FC | part XXII | Stick with the team II.

The 11th season of my FM17 save with Reading is over and I decided to make another update of players who are in the club from the beginning. Some of them already left us in previous two seasons but it was not a huge exodus. But some them wanted to go for a new challenge and I decided to not stay in their way.

I wrote “Stick with the team” at the end of the January this year and this part was after the seventh season with Reading.

#FM17 | Reading FC | part XVIII | Septuple!

Well, if you thought the eighth season was extremely succesful (and it surely was) I don’t know what you will think at the end of this part. The ninth season with Reading FC in Football Manager 2017 was even more successful as we won one more trophy than in previous season.

It’s crazy, isn’t it? I think it is because I really did not hope for trophy galore like this.

#FM17 | Reading FC | part XV | Massive staff boost

Same as players and club itself develop during the save you always have to be careful of what staff you have beside you. As I write in the last part I decided to stick with many players from the start of the save. They were the reason why I started it. And some of the coaches from the start of the save is also still with us.

Despite we won the Premier League in the fifth season and we were in the Europa League Final in the same season and our finances was absolutely great we stagnated a little in staff area.

#FM17 | Reading FC | part XIV | Stick with the team

Seven seasons with Reading in Football Manager 2017. From Championship bottom part of the table to the Champions League glory. This save went well so far and you can catch up with the whole story there if you want.

I know it’s not the anniversary season like 10th or 20th but I decided to write about some players and the team itself because maybe some of you did not notice that I won the Champions League with 12 players from the original Reading squad.

#FM17 | Reading FC | Liam Kelly development

From not needed to key player. That’s the story of midfielder Liam Kelly in my FM17 save with Reading FC. This article will be something similar like the previous one about Danny Loader but there will be not too many goals in the fifth season like Loader scored.

Liam Kelly was 20 years old at the start of the save and he was one of many in the Under 23s Squad listed for loan and also transfer listed. Continue reading

#FM17 | Reading FC | Danny Loader development

One of the reason why I started a save with Reading FC in FM17 was to play with young players who are in the club at the start of the game. Jordan Obita, Dominic Samuel, Liam Kelly, Jake Cooper or Danny Loader.

And the last one made very good progress during the first five years with this save as he became the best Premier League goalscorer of the last season I played so far. Continue reading

#FM17 | Goalkeeper Instructions

Hi all, if you follow me on Twitter, you probably saw my tweet during last Sunday about the “Distribute To Full Backs” instruction which I have set to my goalkeeper(s). When I was on my way to my real life job I thought about it while I was stuck in a traffic jam and I decided to write something more about, above 140 characters.

It was one of the first tactical changes I made after a couple of matches when FM17 arrived. I’m not sure if I saw too many long balls during previous versions but during my first matches with this edition, I grew really frustrated that my goalkeeper started each new attack with a long ball to the half line: that was typically the end of our possession as opponent’s defenders easily get the ball.

#FM17 | Throw-In Routines

Throw-Ins. My most favorite set piece during Football Manager 2016 when I created some lovely Routines which worked perfectly. You know I really like set pieces in overall but Throw-Ins is probably my favorite because it could be very dangerous for your opponent if you can play it well.

You can find other set pieces for FM17 or FM16 in this category.

Same as with another set pieces very important is to have the best suited players for each role on the pitch. Continue reading

#FM17 | Reading FC | part VIII | Overachievers

Hello everyone and welcome to the another post about my save with Reading FC. After last year promotion to the top flight we battled greatly during our first season back in the Premier League and finished seventh.

Thanks to other results in the domestic cup it means we have qualified for the next year Europa League as we’ll enter the competition at the third qualifying round.
